Those who are fascinated by aquatic life have the opportunity to go diving in the Blue-Bay Marine Park to admire the beautiful multicolored fish and magnificent corals. Guided tours in glass-bottom boats are also available at a reasonable price.
Ile aux Aigrettes, also known as Aigrettes Island, is a small coral island located off the southeastern coast of Mauritius, near the village of Mahebourg. It is part of the Blue Bay Marine Park and is renowned for its rich biodiversity and conservation efforts.
The island is home to the endangered Mauritian wildlife, including the Mauritian Fody and the Aldabra giant tortoises, among others. It serves as a nature reserve and a sanctuary for various endemic and endangered plant and animal species. The restoration and protection of native flora and fauna on Ile aux Aigrettes are supervised by the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF), which has been successfully working to restore the island’s ecosystem.
As a result of these conservation efforts, visiting Ile aux Aigrettes offers a unique opportunity to observe and appreciate the island’s rare and endemic species in their natural habitat. Guided tours are available to provide visitors with insights into the island’s conservation projects and its exceptional wildlife. It is a popular destination for eco-tourists and nature enthusiasts interested in experiencing the pristine beauty of Mauritius’ unique flora and fauna.
The studio’s terrace offers a panoramic view of the Île des Deux Cocos, nestled between Blue-Bay Beach and the Shandrani Hotel. It is recommended to visit this island by kayak and explore its untouched state.
The Île aux Cerfs, which is highly popular among tourists, can be reached by boat from Blue-Bay in just half an hour. This island, spanning an area of 100 hectares, is located on the east side of the main island, near the coastal village of Trou d’Eau Douce. Its beautiful casuarina trees, sandy beach, and calm sea make it very appealing to sea lovers. Restaurants and facilities for water sports are available on the island.
Also known as Île aux Fouquets, this island was one of the first to be discovered by the Dutch in 1598. The island received its name when a lighthouse was built in 1864, which remained operational until the early 20th century. Located in the bay of Mahébourg, this island played a strategic role during the naval battle of Grand-Port.
It is an ideal place to contemplate nature. The landscape is breathtaking; it is one of the few places around the island where the waves crash against the reefs. In the surroundings, you will have the opportunity to relax while admiring the natural rock formations known as “brisants.”
